In a recent update to the Steam Client, Valve has announced that full support for the PS4 DualShock controllers is here. The patch notes read, “Added Steam Configurator support for PS4 Dual Shock Controller. Enable in Big Picture settings Add/Test Controller settings. When enabled, PS4 controllers will have access to the same sort of customization/configuration support as Steam Controllers, including native API support.”
In addition, “PS4 Controllers using this system can map the trackpad, gyro, buttons, etc. to keyboard, mouse, or x-input outputs and can make use of action sets, touch menus, radial menus, and so forth.” Prior to this gamers who wanted to use the PS4’s controllers had to download a separate piece of software.
This meant that it wasn’t as obvious to gamers who did not know about this beforehand, and it also meant that it wasn’t 100% reliable. In any case the update should be live, so check it out if you haven’t done so already.
