Sonos confirmed third-party app support for Spotify about a month ago but only released it to a select number of users through a public beta. There’s good news today for users who have been waiting for this functionality to arrive. Sonos Spotify app support is now live for all users, enabling them to control their Sonos from within the Spotify app using Spotify Connect.
Spotify Premium users will be able to control their Sonos speakers from inside the Spotify app. They will be able to use all of the features that Spotify offers, including but not limited to discovery, curation, and sharing.
Spotify says that this presents the best of both worlds to users by giving them the “smartest and most seamless home sound system yet,” aside from other features like picking up a track from where it was left off on a mobile device or another streaming device.
Third-party app support for Spotify will enable users to access the multiroom power their Sonos setup provides them directly in the Spotify app. This is a big step Sonos has taken to open itself up to third-party integrations.
It already has third-party app support for Google Play Music and will soon gain support for Pandora as well. The only caveat here is that Spotify Premium users can access this functionality so those who are using the ad-supported free version of Spotify are out of luck.
