Virtual reality (VR) can be used for all kinds of things, such as gaming, professional use, entertainment, and more. It can also potentially be used as a medical tool in which it can help people conquer their fears, or at least that’s what Samsung Canada is hoping to achieve with their #BeFearless campaign.
According to the press release, “Using virtual reality technology and the Galaxy S7 and GearVR, #BeFearless was designed by Samsung to help people face their fears head-on. Developed in partnership with Facebook and Oculus, the four-week gamified VR experience is designed to help users gradually face typical situations in a controlled environment.”
This is actually not the first time that Samsung has launched similar efforts. For example earlier this year they launched a similar campaign designed to help users get over their fear of public speaking. Researchers at Oxford University have also found that VR can be used to help treat people who suffer from paranoia.
For Samsung Canada’s campaign, it will focus on two fears: the fear of heights and public speaking. According to Mark Childs, Chief Marketing Officer at Samsung Canada, “As part of our ongoing commitment to make a difference in our connected lives, we believe the immersive VR innovation behind #BeFearless can empower many of us to master our fears.”
