Interestingly enough the report also reveals that the 2017 iPhone could come in an additional size: 5.8-inches. As it stands, the iPhone is being offered in 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch variants (not counting the SE model), so the rumor of a 5.8-inch display is rather odd and out of place. Also apparently the AMOLED panels will be reserved for the 5.8-inch model, while the other two will use LCD.
Assuming the rumors are true, this means that 2017 will see four iPhone models. We’ll have the 4.7-inch model, the 5.5-inch model, the newly rumored 5.8-inch model, and a report from the other day even suggested a 5-inch iPhone 7s. This certainly sounds like way too many variants and would be out of Apple’s character to launch this many products at once.
Take it with a grain of salt for now as DigiTimes is known to have a spotty record when it comes to such rumors. However part of their report does corroborate earlier claims that the OLED iPhone could be reserved for one particular model, while the others will keep using LCD, like how the dual cameras were reserved for the iPhone 7 Plus.
