Samsung Pay Has (Sort Of) Expanded To Malaysia

Right now both Apple Pay and Samsung Pay are slowly finding their way across various markets around the world. We can only assume the rollout is slow because of all the various deals they have to make with local banks, financial services, retailers, as well as get regulatory approval. After all it has to do with money.

Now back in October, Samsung said that they had plans to bring its services to Russia, Thailand, and Malaysia. The good news for those living in Malaysia is that it looks like Samsung Pay has finally arrived, or at least in a way. This is because while the service has been launched in the country, it only exists in beta which means that not everyone can use it just yet.

At the moment Samsung is testing out its service with Maybank (one of the country’s biggest banks), so customers of the bank with compatible Samsung phones can link up their credit/debit cards with Samsung Pay and start using the service. The supported handsets include the Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy A7 (2016) and Galaxy A5 (2016).

For those who are interested in trying out the service, you can head on over to Samsung’s website to register your interest. In the meantime based on Samsung’s website, Samsung Pay is currently available in 8 countries. There were plans to launch it in the UK, but it has since been delayed to 2017.
