Samsung Canada To Deactivate All Unreturned Note 7s On December 15

So far we have heard reports that over in New Zealand and in Australia, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 handsets that have yet to be returned will no longer work with local carriers, meaning that those devices will be very expensive paperweights. It turns out that over in Canada, a similar move is being made.

According to MobileSyrup, it seems that starting on the 15th of December, Samsung will be deactivating all unreturned Galaxy Note 7 handsets. What this means is that the phone will no longer be capable of making phone calls, use data, send text messages, just to name a few. There is also a constraint that is expected to be introduced on the 12th of December in which it will limit the battery charge, as well as disable features like WiFi and Bluetooth.

As MobileSyrup puts it, this transforms the Note 7 into a very dangerous paperweight that could potentially explode on its user. In a statement made to the website, Samsung Canada said, “We strongly urge any customers still using their Note 7 to return their device to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange between December 7th and December 15th.”

So far Samsung has been trying to get customers to return their phones and for the  most part, they have been successful. This includes offering incentives like discounts, credit, and also a 50% discount on next year’s Galaxy S8.
