One of the apps that will be taking advantage of this is Runkeeper. In a post on the company’s blog, “While we’ve allowed you to leave your phone at home for over a year when running with the Apple Watch, the new GPS functionality means you’ll get even richer stats from your workout and a post-activity GPS map shared to your phone—so you can see exactly where you traveled on those runs. Makes reminiscing on your running journey way more fun, right?”
As Runkeeper said, the app has been designed to allow users to use the app and the Apple Watch without the need to pair with the iPhone as the stats can be downloaded later. However with this update, users will be able to access more information thanks to the built-in GPS. Runkeeper has also announced that they have made some overall improvements to the app.
This includes the ability to choose what kind of metrics you want the app to display, a heart rate graph, a target pace graph, and real-time updates. The font size has also been increased to help make it easier to read.
