In a recent interview with Game Informer, Resident Evil 7’s producer Masachika Kawata explains the reason for the switch. “When we decided on the direction of focusing on horror, we thought that having a first-person perspective would be the most effective way to fully immerse the player in the experience.”
He adds, “By making the player the main character, we believe they’ll be able to have a more personal connection to what’s going on and experience survival horror like never before.” Let’s not forget that Resident Evil 7 is also playable in VR via the PlayStation VR, so clearly in this case a first-person view would help to enhance the immersiveness of it.
Resident Evil 7 is set for a release on the 24th of January, 2017. In the meantime the playable demos of the game are available on consoles as well as the PC, so you can go ahead and check it out if you’re wondering what you would be getting yourself into.
