Nintendo has a weird relationship with their fans, in the sense that while many publishers and developers are more than happy to support their fans by not impeding them when they upload videos to YouTube or create fan projects, Nintendo seems to take issue when their fans do that which has led to quite a bit of videos and fan projects being shut down.
In fact not too long ago we saw a Pokemon fan project called Pokemon Uranium killed by Nintendo despite the developers spending a good 9 years of their lives working on it. Now it looks like another Pokemon project has been hit with the legal banhammer, according to a report from GameSpot.
Dubbed Pokemon Prism, its developers shared a letter they got from Nintendo’s lawyers in which they were told they were not authorized to use Nintendo’s intellectual property, and that they had to take it down. Since receiving the letter, its website has had its contents removed and one of its developers, Adam Vierra, apologized to fans who were looking forward to the game.
Just like Uranium, Prism has been in the works for quite a while, 8 years to be specific, so it’s kind of sad to see all that effort flushed down the drain, but then again this isn’t the first time Nintendo has shut down such projects and we doubt it is going to be the last, at least not until the company has a change of heart regarding their policies.
