If you’ve played The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and enjoyed it and were wondering why there was no Wind Waker 2, a report from Nintendo Everything has revealed it all. This is based on an interview from The Legend of Zelda: Art & Artifacts, an upcoming book in which a discussion with Satoru Takizawa was translated.
According to Takizawa, it seems that back then fans of the franchise weren’t too happy with the cartoony Link that was depicted in Wind Waker. There was a demand for them to return to slightly more realistic graphics which is why Wind Waker 2 was not made. Takizawa also revealed that the cartoony version presented some problems as they wanted Link to be able to ride a horse.
However with the current proportions it would not have been possible, and creating an adult version of Link would not have made things better. In fact we think it could have confused players since they’d probably be wondering how much time has passed between Wind Waker and Wind Waker 2 in terms of the game’s timeline.
The end result was that they brought in illustrator Yusuke Nakano who helped to create Link’s image for use in Twilight Princess. So far the art style in the Zelda franchise has been mixed and changed up from time to time, and the upcoming Breath of the Wild is quite a departure from the previous titles. In any case what do you guys think? Is it a pity that Wind Waker 2 was not created? Or are you happy that we got Twilight Princess as a result?
