This is according to a report from Android Police in which they have obtained a statement from Google confirming its release. They also have confirmed why the update is late for the Nexus 6, and it seems that it was due to a last minute bug that was discovered. “Unfortunately, we found a last minute bug that was specific to the Nexus 6, which has caused the delay of the 7.1.1 OTA rollout. We’ve since fixed the issue and will be rolling out an update in early January.”
No specific dates have been mentioned but given that next week is already January, like we said earlier, you probably won’t have to wait too long. The Android 7.1.1 update will introduce a bunch of new features that will hopefully make the Nexus 6 feel “fresh”, especially more so given that it is on its way to being a 3-year old handset as it was initially released back in 2014.
