xbox-one-bcLast year Microsoft announced that the Xbox One would be getting backwards compatibility. This means that should developers/publishers choose to enable this, games from the Xbox 360 era would be playable on the Xbox One. It seems like the idea was a pretty good one, at least according to a recent tweet by the head of Xbox Phil Spencer.

According to Spencer’s tweet, “Now over 300 back compat titles. Nearly 50% of XB1 owners playing BC games is great to see. Thanks for supporting the program.” Like we said, it seems to have proven itself to be a hit, something that Sony might want to take note of. Unlike Microsoft, Sony stated that they had no plans to introduce backwards compatibility to the PS4.

We suppose we can understand why since we can only imagine that Sony would much rather gamers spend money on newer games as opposed to older titles. However at the same time allowing gamers to play older games mean that there’s a reason to stick to the platform. After all there are only so many new games that players can play at once, right?

In any case what do you guys think of the backwards compatibility feature? Are you glad that this was something that Microsoft chose to launch? Or do you think that it would not have mattered either way?
