Apple announced its new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar about a month ago. The new notebook is already available for purchase. The Touch Bar is its most unique aspect and Apple has opened it up to developers so that they can leverage the multi-touch display’s functionality to build great experiences. One such app makes the new MacBook Pro’s Touch Bar double as a miniature piano.
Developer Graham Parks has created this small app that turns the Touch Bar into a miniature piano. Those who own this notebook can easily play it using the Touch Bar. All they need to do is tap on the polyphonic keyboard’s keys to play. It’s that simple.
The app – called Touch Bar Piano – also allows users to pick various instrument voicings enabling them to switch between an acoustic grand piano and an electric. There are even xylophone and synth violin configurations.
Touch Bar Piano is available as a free download for the new MacBook Pro via the utsire website. It’s an unsigned app so users will have to deal with the Gatekeeper prompts before the app can be installed.
It looks like the app relies on the GarageBand sound library to actually generate the music. The app itself just lets users tap on the keys using the Touch Bar on the new MacBook Pro.
