The LG G5 is an interesting take on the modular smartphone concept, but unfortunately it did not exactly do very well, which led to rumors that LG could abandon the modular concept for the LG G6. Recent alleged leaks have seemingly proven that as the phone appears to be a singular piece and there are no signs that it could be modular.
As if to cement that rumor, a new report has surfaced in which it has been suggested that the LG G6 could feature a glass back and a 2.5D LCD display. With the glass back, clearly modularity is out of the question, although we should point out that it’s a bit hard to tell if these rumors are true based on the previously leaked render, especially since the renders showed the phone sporting a pretty flat-looking display, and it’s hard to determine if the shiny back panel is due to metal or glass.
Either way it does seem like a bit of a bummer that LG is not continuing the modular system for the LG G6. It is possible that they might continue it with lower-end devices, but in any case it is a rumor for now so it’s best taken with a grain of salt. Also last we heard, the LG G6 could be announced earlier than expected, possibly at MWC 2017 which will take place in February, 2017, so do check back with us then where hopefully we’ll have the official details to share.
