lg-g5-modules_09According to a recent rumor, the upcoming LG G6 is said to be waterproof and will feature wireless charging. Waterproofing the phone also means that LG will be removing any gaps or entrances where unnecessary, which means that the battery will no longer be removable and it seems that we can bid modularity adieu.

Turns out that the previous rumors might be right because in a recent tweet by David Ruddock of Android Police, he has similarly “confirmed” some of the rumored features. According to Ruddock’s tweet, “Source: LG G6 will not have a removable battery, LG will move to an all-glass design language similar to Samsung. Headphone jack is a go.”

Ruddock does not confirm whether modularity will be going away, but safe to say an all-glass design would certainly make modular phones a bit tricky to build. Thankfully, however, the headphone jack is here to stay so for now, would-be LG G6 owners have bought themselves a temporary reprieve as we can only imagine that eventually more OEMs will do away with the headphone jack.

There have been rumors that LG will abandon its modular plans, but LG has since sort of denied those rumors, but the statement issued at that time certainly didn’t sound very confident. This seems to be quite a contrast compared to Motorola who plans on releasing 12 Moto Mods a year.
