You might have heard recently about iPhone 6s battery issues. Apple is already providing free battery replacements for iPhone 6s units manufactured between September and October 2015. However, the company recently admitted that some units “outside the affected batch” are experiencing issues as well. The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards of South Korea is looking into the matter and may launch an investigation to ascertain whether these issues present a battery safety concern.
Local media reports cite an official from the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards saying that “The agency is well aware of recent iPhone issues and is taking a close look at it,” the official does point out that the agency is yet to launch a formal investigation.
The iPhone 6s battery issues were first reported earlier this year, users complained about the handset shutting down at random. Apple has been offering free battery replacements for the affected batch and as reports continue to come in, it’s looking at software tweaks to address the issues in units that are not from the affected batch.
The recent iOS 10.2 update includes additional diagnostic capability which will help Apple gather information over the coming weeks that may potentially help the company improve algorithms used to manage battery performance and shutdown. Apple says that if the data shows that such improvements can be made it’s going to deliver them through future software updates.
