Yesterday Nintendo’s Super Mario Run was released for iOS. In case you’re hearing about this for the first time, the app will be exclusive for iOS devices until 2017 where it will eventually be released for Android. This means that until then, Super Mario Run does not exist on Android, but it looks like developers are already taking advantage of its popularity.
As spotted by CNET, it seems that quite a few fake Super Mario Runs have found their way onto Android. If you’ve never heard of the game then chances are you might be fooled by this knockoffs. We’re not sure if their intention is merely to capitalize on the popularity of the game to rack up downloads and players, which in turn increases ad revenue, or if there are more malicious plans.
However Google has since told CNET that the apps that they’ve discovered – Mario Run Jumper – has since been suspended. CNET discovered that there is another called Super Plumber Run which has also appeared to have been taken down by Google.
Either way this is just a reminder to Android users that Super Mario Run does not exist on Android yet, and we will definitely keep you guys informed when that time comes. Until then you should disregard all APKs or apps on the Play Store that claim to be it (you can always check who is the developer to get an idea of whether it is real or fake).
