Duolingo is one of the many apps that you can use on a mobile device to learn a new language, it’s also one of the most widely used apps for this purpose. Earlier this year the app introduced chatbots to make it easy for users to practice the language of their choice with an AI bot. It’s now making the process of learning a new language more social with the addition of Language Clubs.
“One of the hardest things about learning a language is staying motivated, and we believe this new feature will draw friends and family together around a common goal to help our users hit their goals more quickly,” said Duolingo co-founder and CEO Luis von Ahn.
Duolingo Language Clubs is an optional social component to the app that has been used by more than 150 million people to learn a new language. The clubs are open to users to both the iOS and Android versions of the Duolingo app.
Users can share a newsfeed of their accomplishments in the clubs. This adds a fun competitive element to the entire process as well as makes it more social. Clubs will also have a weekly leaderboard where users can see how they performed compared to other club members.
The Duolingo Language Clubs are open to speakers of English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Dutch, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Greek, Romanian, Czech, Polish, Thai, and Hindi languages.
