Ever download an app and find out that it’s not what you thought it was, or that it is working the way you thought it would? Thankfully that’s what refund policies in app stores are for, in which users are protected from having to pay for apps that don’t work as advertised. However over in Korea, developers aren’t thrilled by it.
In a report from The Korea Times (via 9to5Mac), it seems that developers are unhappy with the way Apple handles the refunds because gamers seem to be taking advantage of the system. What has been happening is that gamers have downloaded and paid for apps and in-app purchases, and request for a refund later in which the requests are typically granted without question.
This is normal, except that Apple refuses to reveal the identity of the users who have been making the refund requests, meaning that these users are still be able to use the app, play the games and access in-app purchases pretty much for free. Developers are then forced to manually track down these users which is rather inefficient and not a very good use of their time.
Will Apple be making changes to their policy? It seems unlikely for now, but if you’re a developer than we guess this is something you’ll want to take into consideration.
