You Can Broadcast Live Video From Twitter Starting Today

Twitter already offers a live video streaming app called Periscope but it’s now taking that technology and putting it right inside the main Twitter app. The microblogging service announced today that users can now broadcast live video straight from the Twitter app. The live broadcast feature is powered by Periscope.

All users need to do in order to live from within the Twitter app is compose a Tweet and then tap on “LIVE” which will bring them to a pre-broadcast screen where they can frame their shot. When they’re ready all they need to do is tap on “Go Live” to start broadcasting to their followers live.

Once a user’s broadcast is live, anyone on Twitter and Periscope will be able to join in and participate in the stream. Viewers can comment and send hearts by tapping on the screen. Twitter says that hearts allow viewers to show their support for the broadcaster.

The process is very simple and it will feel familiar to those who have already used Periscope to do exactly the same thing. Today’s update means that users who just want a basic live streaming experience don’t really need to install the Periscope app on their phones.

The company confirms that this update for its app is rolling out to everyone on Twitter for iOS and Android in a couple of days.
