This means that from here on out, manufacturers will be able to use the standard in their devices if they choose. As far as consumers are concerned, what does this mean for you? Basically Bluetooth 5 is an improvement over the previous standard. It will offer up a longer range and faster transfer speeds.
Its range is said to be four times that of Bluetooth 4.2, meaning that if you connect to devices like wireless speakers or headphones, range is really something that you will not have to worry about. Its speed is also said to be double that of Bluetooth 4.2, so the transfer of data over the standard will now be faster which might come in handy for IoT devices.
As to who will be first out of the gate to adopt Bluetooth 5 remains to be seen, but now that it is made available to manufacturers, hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for the first Bluetooth 5 compatible devices to hit the market.
