BlackBerry is expected to release the last device it’s ever going to produce in the near future. This device, codenamed BlackBerry Mercury, is said to be the last device that the Canadian company had in the pipeline before it decided to hand over the reins of its smartphone business to China-based TCL. A BlackBerry Mercury leaked screenshot has surfaced online today and it appears to reveal that the handset will be powered by Nougat and will have a display resolution of 1620×1080 pixel.
BlackBerry has confirmed that it will no longer be manufacturing its own devices. It has signed an exclusive deal with TCL which will see the Chinese company manufacture and sell smartphones under the BlackBerry brand.
The Canadian company is expected to end its run in the smartphone market with one last Android-powered device. Reports suggest that the handset is going to feature a dual-edge curved display and that it’s also going to feature a full QWERTY keyboard that BlackBerry handsets have always been known for.
Details about the BlackBerry Mercury specs are slim at this point in time, but it’s expected to feature a fingerprint scanner embedded in the space bar and a 3,400mAh battery. The screenshot leak also hints at Android 7.0 Nougat and a 1620×1080 pixel resolution display.
None of this has been officially confirmed as yet so take this information with a grain of salt. BlackBerry hasn’t said if it has any plans of releasing one final device so nothing an be said with absolute certainty right now.
