Last month it was revealed that Google’s latest version of Android, Android 7.0 Nougat, was installed on 0.3% of all Android devices. Unfortunately it looks like there hasn’t been much improvement over last month because according to the stats released this month, Nougat is only sitting at 0.4%, a 0.1% increase from the previous month.
We guess given the update habits and schedules of OEMs, this shouldn’t be too surprising. However we have to take our hats off to the folks at HTC and LG, both of whom have released devices with Android 7.0 Nougat preinstalled (LG V20 and HTC Bolt), which probably did help boost the distribution numbers by a bit.
Older versions of Android are on the decline, save for Android 6.0 Marshmallow in which the installation base actually went up. Last month it was at 24%, but this month the numbers show that it is sitting at 26.3% and it is now the most used version of Android. That honor previously belonged to KitKat which was at 25.2% last month and was the highest, but that has since fallen to 24%.
We know that several OEMs do have plans to release Android 7.0 Nougat for their handsets, so it is more than likely that we’ll see the distribution numbers jump when that happens, but for now it certainly isn’t looking too fantastic.
