As it stands companies like Amazon are trying out the service, but convenient store chain 7-Eleven has them beat. In an announcement by Flirtey (7-Eleven’s partner on drone deliveries; via TechCrunch), it seems that the company has managed to make an impressive 77 deliveries within its first month of operations in Reno, Nevada.
Of course the service is still being trialed but so far it seems to have been well-received. The service being tested out includes a custom-made app that lets customers pick from 7-Eleven’s inventory, after which they will be notified of the drone’s delivery progress, such as when it was loaded up and when it lands on their doorstep.
The good news is that according to Flirtey, they say that expansion of this service is expected to happen in 2017. It won’t be going nationwide just yet, but you could be lucky enough to be in one of its new markets in which maybe you’ll get to take the service out for a spin.
