3D Printed Adidas Shoes Can Be Yours For $333

The concept of 3D printing shoes isn’t new. After all if shoes could be made to fit the feet of customers specifically, like a tailored shirt or pants, and done in an efficient manner, why not? Adidas has attempted 3D printed shoes in the past, like earlier this year where they created special 3D printed shoes for athletes who won medals during the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The good news is that if you like what you saw or wouldn’t mind getting your hands on a pair of 3D printed shoes, you’ll be pleased to learn that you will soon be able to get one for yourself. Dubbed the 3D Runner, the shoes will be seeing a limited edition release with reservations starting tomorrow where they can be picked up at Adidas NYC for $333.

According to the company, “The shoe features an engineered 3D web structure with dense zones in high force areas and less dense zones in the low force areas, allowing for the optimum level of performance. The 3D Runner also features a 3D printed heel counter, which is integrated into the midsole and avoids the typical process of gluing or stitching. Benefits include greater elasticity, compliancy and support. A black PRIMEKNIT upper ensures high style, superior fit and performance.”

Now $333 is clearly not what many would call cheap or affordable as far as shoes are concerned, but this is obviously aimed more at collectors and sneakerheads rather than your average consumer who’s looking for a pair of walking shoes. However we wouldn’t be surprised if this concept were to catch on and become the standard in which shoes are made in the future.
