You might have heard today that real estate mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump has won the presidential election and he is now officially the president-elect of the United States. You may have your own feelings on this development, but if you are a Wu-Tang Clan fan, there’s a lot more for you to be excited about today.
Wu-Tang Clan made a new album public last year that’s unlike any other, called Once Upon A Time In Shaolin, the lone copy was sold for millions of dollars to a private buyer and the album comes with a contract it can’t be commercially exploited until 2103.
Martin Shkreli, a controversial hedge fund manager, purchased the only copy of Once Upon a Time in Shaolin for $2 million last year. He promised that he would release the album if Donald Trump won the presidency.
The election was officially called for Donald Trump earlier today and it appears that Shkreli is following through on his promise. He has been streaming samples of the album on YouTube. It’s a pretty big deal, these are samples of tracks that we’re probably not going to hear in our lifetime if they’re not properly released.
Shrkeli had promised to release the tracks and while Wu-Tang Clan fans will be excited to just hear the samples, he does say that he’s working with Wu-Tang Clan to negotiate a wider release. Fingers crossed, I guess.
