Google may have made the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones exclusive to Verizon in the United States but it’s also selling the device unlocked and off-contract directly online. This allowed T-Mobile to one-up Verizon by offering 50 percent off the cost of a Pixel smartphone via bill credits to customers who purchased their Pixel directly from Google or any other retailer and brought it over to T-Mobile. This offer was only limited to T-Mobile One subscribers previously and has now been extended to customers on the Simple Choice Unlimited plan.
Magenta previously required Pixel owners to sign up for the T-Mobile One plan in order to get the $325 in bill credits. That might have made some customers reconsider about jumping ship to T-Mobile so the carrier has made amends.
Starting this week, customers with a 32GB Pixel smartphone can take advantage of the 50 percent off promotion even if they want to opt for the carrier’s Simple Choice Unlimited plan. T-Mobile has updated its website to reflect this change and it’s now going to honor this offer for these customers as well.
This is bound to bring in even more customers for T-Mobile as it seeks to take full advantage of the Pixel despite the fact that the smartphone is exclusive to Verizon in the United States. Its antics certainly won’t be sitting well with Big Red, but Magenta has made a name for itself by always being a thorn in the competition’s side.
