The Thanksgiving holiday is accompanied by the Black Friday shopping event which sees billions of dollars being spent on discounted products. Black Friday 2016 online sales are estimated to have crossed $3 billion dollars with more than $1 billion worth of sales being generated from mobile devices. Gaming consoles are some of the most sought after products during Black Friday and it’s said that Sony has sold more than two million PlayStation 4 units over the Black Friday weekend.
Sony is yet to officially confirm the numbers but Ubisoft UK event specialist and team leader Sunny Sanghera writes on Twitter that Sony has sold more than two million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide this week, adding that the Watch Dogs 2 price promotion also played a role in this stellar performance.
It goes without saying that Sony would have sold a lot of PlayStation 4 units this weekend than it normally does because there were some great deals to be had on the PlayStation 4 Slim and the PlayStation 4 Pro. Do take the figure with a grain of salt as it hasn’t been officially confirmed and we don’t have a breakdown as yet of sales that the Pro and Slim variants brought in.
Sony’s console has performed considerably better than the Xbox One ever since both were released back in 2013. The company recently confirmed that it has sold more than 40 million PlayStation 4 consoles across the globe. It’s likely going to see an uptick in sales throughout the holiday season.
