The Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 is expected to be the company’s flagship chipset for 2017. We can expect that it will be faster and more efficient than its predecessors, but it seems that we can also expect Qualcomm to introduce the next generation of their Quick Charge technology. According to a report from fudzilla, the Snapdragon 830 could come with Quick Charge 4.0.
The next latest iteration of the technology is said to offer charging speeds of up to 28W and will support charging all the way to 5V/4.7A~5.6A, 9V/4A configurations. To give you guys some context, the current Quick Charge 3.0 technology supports 18W for phones, so basically this will be a huge increase.
We’re not sure exactly how much faster this will be compared to Quick Charge 3.0 so in terms of charging time, we don’t have any specific numbers yet. However given that the current technology is already pretty speedy, we reckon with the rumored bump in charging speed, Quick Charge 4.0 should be an improvement.
However we should remind you guys that Google isn’t too thrilled about all the various proprietary charging platforms. The company recently made changes to the Android Compatibility Definition Document regarding USB-C compatibility across the board. Right now it exists as more of a recommendation, but Google did note that it might become mandatory in the future.
