You can command Siri to do a lot of things for you that it will happily do, and now it can do even more. PayPal has announced support for Apple’s digital personal assistant which means that Siri can now be used to send money to people via PayPal. Users will be able to send and even request money by giving Siri commands on their iOS device. This feature is currently available in 30 countries at launch.
Telling Siri to send money is as simple as telling it to call a contact for you. Just say “Hey Siri, send Tim $20 using PayPal” and it will take care of the rest.
Now you might be thinking about security risks here given that Siri can’t really distinguish between voices so there’s a real risk of someone else using that command to tell Siri to transfer money.
Some protections are in place to ensure that this doesn’t happen. For starters, the phone has to be unlocked, so unless someone knows your PIN code or is capable of getting past the Touch ID fingerprint scanner in some way, you’re pretty much okay.
This feature is currently only available to PayPal customers on an iPhone or iPad running iOS 10 or higher. The full list of countries where this feature is currently being offered is available on PayPal’s website.
