Samsung Pay On Gear S3 Won’t Work On Pixel Phones

Remember the other day when Samsung announced that Samsung Pay on the Gear S3 would be compatible with pretty much every Android phone that is running on Android 4.4 KitKat and above? Unfortunately that isn’t 100% true because it has been discovered that while it does work on many phones, it does not work on Google’s Pixel handsets.

In a tweet by the official Samsung Pay Twitter account, it reads, “Hi there, #SamsungPay on the Gear S3 is not available with Pixel devices.” Yup, for some reason Google’s latest phones will not be compatible with Samsung Pay on the Gear S3, which is kind of a pity since from what Google has been saying, demand for the Pixel phones have been pretty high and for Samsung to miss out on being on these devices is quite a pity.

In fact according to Samsung’s own list of compatible handsets, devices like the 2014 Nexus 6 and the 2015 Nexus 6P are listed as devices that are supported, so it is strange that the latest phones from Google aren’t supported. Typically what we see is that older devices are passed over in terms of support, but that’s not the case here.

Of course we expect that eventually Samsung will offer support for the Pixel. Their social media rep already said, “We’re constantly working to expand Samsung Pay to new devices – stay tuned!” As to when that will take place remains to be seen.
