Samsung Patent Gives Us A Glimpse At Their Foldable Phone

samsung-patent-foldable-phoneIf the rumors are to be believed, 2017 will be an interesting year for smartphones because apparently Samsung has plans to launch a phone that is foldable. No, we’re not talking about flip phones, but rather we’re talking about smartphones whose displays can be bent and folded in half without any damage to it.

Now many are probably wondering what this might look like, and while it’s really anyone’s guess, a recently published patent discovered by Galaxyclub.nl (via SamMobile) could clue us in as to what we might be able to expect. One of the diagrams in the patent can be seen in the image above which depicts a long-ish looking device with several creases in the middle of its body.

We can only assume that the creases are where the phone will actually bend. This means that the phone can only be bent in half at the middle, as opposed to its display being bendable at any point in the device. In theory this means that we should be able to fold the phone in half and tuck it away, but unfold it where it will be longer and thus have a larger display.

However like we said, we have no idea what the phone will actually look like, but this patent certainly does paint a rather detailed picture. There’s no guarantee that the phone will end up looking like this, but if it does what do you guys think of it? Yay or nay on the design?
