Samsung Encourages Developers To Create Apps For Tizen

tizen-fcc-z3It goes without saying that a mobile platform is as good as its apps. This is because while a mobile platform could offer up a ton of features by itself, apps are what takes it further and makes your phone more functional, like being able to book movie tickets on the go, making dinner reservations, calling an Uber, and more.

So while there is nothing wrong with Tizen as a platform, it obviously pales in comparison in apps compared to the likes of iOS and Android, so much so that Samsung has announced an initiative that will incentivize developers to create apps for the platform, by giving developers up to $1 million a month.

According to Samsung, this initiative will run from February until October 2017. Developers who are registered in the Tizen Mobile App Incentive Program will be eligible to take part in this, and every month the top 100 apps downloaded from the Tizen store and who are part of this program will get $10,000 each. So like we said, the payout will be up to $1 million a month.

Will this program work? We know that in the past companies like Microsoft and BlackBerry have thrown money at developers to encourage them to develop for their platforms, but at the end of the day it looks like iOS and Android continue to reign supreme, but who knows, perhaps Samsung could be luckier.
