Apple is expected to make major changes to the iPhone next year as it celebrates the tenth anniversary of this iconic product. iPhone sales have been on the decline over the past few quarters that might very well change in the second half of next year when the iPhone 8 is released. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI securities believes that Apple’s iPhone sales might cross 150 million units in the second half of next year primarily due to the improvements introduced with the iPhone 8.
The iPhone 8 is expected to feature an OLED display with a major design change. It may also offer features like wireless charging that iPhone fans have long been waiting for.
Kuo believes that this is going to release pent-up demand for the iPhone as a result of which Apple may end up selling more than 150 million iPhones combined in the second half of 2017.
If this estimate turns out to be true it would overtake the previous record of around 120 million units that Apple set when the iPhone 6 was released. It’s currently the best-selling iPhone that Apple has ever released.
Kuo also believes that the 4.7 inch entry-level iPhone model destined for 2017 is going to play its part in driving sales as well. It’s expected to feature an LCD display with a glass back as well as wireless charging, allowing it to appeal to a variety of customers including those who don’t want to buy a smartphone with a display that’s more than 5 inches.
