According to a report from the Los Angeles Times (via AppleInsider), this feature will be called Ola Play. Select cars will come equipped with a tablet that will grant passengers access to a variety of infotainment systems that they can control, such as the air-conditioning of the vehicle and its speakers. There will be access to video, radio stations, ebooks, and more.
Alternatively passengers can also download the Ola Play app on their smartphone and sync with the in-car system so that they can access the same features on their phones instead. It is interesting to note that this is actually Apple’s second partnership with a ride-hailing service. Earlier this year Apple announced a $1 billion investment in China’s take on Uber, Didi Chuxing.
We have to wonder if this is Apple sowing the seeds of their plans to enter the automotive market. The company’s electric/self-driving car plans have apparently been scrapped and they are said to be now more focused on creating software for vehicles instead.
