It was back in June last year that Microsoft confirmed that Oculus Rift owners will soon be able to play Xbox One games on the headset. Xbox One owners would have the ability to stream their games to the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. It has taken more than a year for the company to actually make this happen because it has only just now confirmed when Oculus Rift Xbox One game streaming is going to go live.

Microsoft confirmed last year that Xbox One owners will be able to stream games to Oculus Rift and even use their Xbox One controller to play them. No specific games were mentioned back when this announcement was made and it also wasn’t revealed how many games would receive support for streaming to the Rift.

The company has now announced that Rift owners will now be able to stream their Xbox One library to the Rift by using the new Xbox One Streaming to Oculus Rift app. Some of the most popular games like Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Horizon 3, Gears of War 4, and more will be supported. Additional titles will get support for streaming to Oculus Rift next year.

The new Xbox One Streaming to Oculus Rift app will connect to the console via the home network. Once a connection has been established, the console’s video output will be streamed to the Rift headset and projected on a massive screen that users can view in three immersive virtual reality environments. To be clear, the games themselves won’t be VR, you will just play them on a big screen in a VR environment.

The Xbox One Streaming to Oculus Rift app will be available for free from the Oculus Store starting December 12th.
