As you can see in the slide above as obtained by Nokia Power User, it clearly states that Nokia will be returning to mobile. The slide also seems to confirm that Nokia will be looking to expand its VR leadership as well as making a transition to a Digital Health brand, whatever that may be, although we’re sure that Nokia’s return to phones is highly anticipated.
However if a Microsoft exec’s comments from earlier are any accurate, it seems that we can only expect Nokia’s phones to be launched in Q2 2017, so don’t expect it so soon just yet. We’re also not sure what kind of phones we will be looking at, but presumably Nokia will want to get things off the ground in a high-profile way to herald their return.
In case you’re hearing about this for the first time, Nokia won’t actually be making the phones themselves. Instead other companies are expected to leverage Nokia’s branding to create phones using the company’s name. We’re sure that Nokia has certain guidelines/rules in place to ensure that licensees adhere to the image that Nokia is trying to maintain, but in any case we guess we will find out more next year.
