If there was a game that gamers could more or less expect on an annual basis, it would be EA’s Battlefield franchise. The latest title in the franchise, Battlefield 1, was released not too long ago and it seems that maybe gamers should not be so quick to burn through the entire game just yet. This is because it could be years before we get the next title.
This is according to EA’s CFO Blake Jorgensen who spoke at the Nasdaq 35th Investor Program and revealed that it could be a couple of years before the next Battlefield title is released. Apparently part of the reason why is because of a new Star Wars: Battlefront that gamers can look forward to.
Like we said, EA has like clockwork released a new Battlefield title every year. This is also being done by Activision and their Call of Duty titles, so we have to wonder if Activision could also be taking a break on that, or maybe take advantage of the void to push out more Call of Duty games.
Ubisoft has also halted the annual release of major Assassin’s Creed titles, so we guess EA’s decision shouldn’t really come as a surprise. However we expect that even if no new major title is released, EA should be keeping Battlefield 1 updated which will hopefully keep gamers interested for the next couple of years.
