Those who own a Comcast X1 set-top box will soon be able to access Netflix without needing to hook up another device to their TV. If they happen to have a smart TV which already has a Netflix app then the only benefit of this collaboration between Netflix and Comcast is limited to the fact that subscribers can pay for their Netflix subscription through their Comcast bill as well.
Netflix will land on millions of Comcast X1 boxes across the country next week. X1 owners with a Netflix subscription will then be able to easily browse and access the Netflix library over the internet.
“Netflix has been a terrific partner, and our incredible teams of engineers and designers have come together to create an experience that is not only seamless and intuitive, but also lets viewers search and watch tens of thousands of movies, shows, specials and documentaries with the sound of their voice,” said Neil Smit, CEO of Comcast Cable.
Netflix’s content will be fully integrated into Xfinity On Demand which will enable X1 owners to watch new and old seasons of shows like The Blacklist and How To Get Away With Murder as well as Netflix original series such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black.
X1 owners will be asked to sign in when accessing Netflix for the first time on their set-top box. New subscribers will be able to sign up for Netflix via the X1 itself, they can have the service added to their Comcast bill if they want.
