However that could change in the future as Motorola’s CEO revealed that there is a possibility that Tango’s technology could come to handsets like the Moto Z via a Moto Mod. According to Motorola’s CEO Aymar de Lencquesaing, “The tablet folks [at Lenovo] did a phablet and worked with Google, the Tango team, to come out with a Tango phablet. Going forward, we’ll have to address as a group how do we reconcile the products that are at the fringe?”
He then adds, “We’re likely to to have a Tango module to basically enable the Z to have Tango functionality.” He did not mention when exactly can we expect this Moto Mod to be made available, but if anything it does seem to highlight some of the benefits of modular smartphones, which is the ability to upgrade and give it new features without necessarily having to buy a new device.
That being said, Tango’s technology at the moment does seem to be a tad niche and doesn’t really seem like regular customers will have much use for it, but we guess we should give it a bit more time and see what kind of applications it could be used for.
