It was rumored earlier this year that Microsoft would launch at least one of its Xbox TV streaming devices at some point in 2016 but that didn’t happen at the E3 convention where the company launched the Xbox One S and also unveiled Project Scorpio. It didn’t actually talk about the streaming devices at the event where it had some major hardware announcements to make. Now, if a new report is to be believed, Microsoft has actually decided to give up on the Xbox TV streaming devices altogether.

The Xbox TV streaming device was believed to be an HDMI dongle much like the Google Chromecast. It would have been a $99 dongle that was capable of running Universal Windows Platform applications and even light UWP games. The new report claims that Microsoft was pretty much done with the development of this device and that it was due to order 300,000 units for production but it decided to shelve the product.

It’s said that Microsoft wasn’t actually planning on unveiling Project Scorpio at E3 this year but the leaks and Sony’s announcement of the PlayStation 4 Pro forced the company’s hand. For now, it appears that Microsoft has canceled the dongle as it wants the spotlight to remain firmly on its consoles.

Whether or not the company decides to come out with this streaming stick at some point in the future remains to be seen. Microsoft has not yet confirmed if that’s ever going to happen.
