MacBook Shipments Could See 15-25% Decline Due To Expensive New Models

It’s safe to say that when the new MacBook Pros were launched, many were taken aback by the prices as they were higher than the previous generation. This was actually made worse in the UK where due to the financial ramifications of Brexit, it was much, much higher than before. Because of this, MacBook shipments are expected to take a hit.

This is according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who claims that there is tepid demand for the new MacBook Pros due to its price. The fact that not only are these laptops more expensive than ever, but the supposed major changes are said to be disappointing as far as core users are concerned. That and the fact that the switch to USB-C, removal of the SD card, and capping it to 16GB of RAM has left many users disappointed.

Kuo claims that in Q1 2017, we can expect that demand for older MacBook laptops to remain steady, but overall we are looking at a 15-25% decline in overall shipments due to the slower adoption of the newer models. However if you recall, we had earlier reported that Kuo had also predicted that Apple will introduce newer and cheaper models in the second half of 2017.

These models will be cheaper than the current-gen MacBook Pros, and are also expected to feature support for up to 32GB of RAM, presumably thanks to Intel’s Canonlake processors which are more energy efficient.
