The report claims that the iPhone 8’s cameras will be supplied by LG Innotek who currently supplies it for the iPhone 7 Plus. They will also be of the 3D variety which means that they will be able to enable 3D photography. Exactly what this means remains to be seen, but as 9to5Mac points out, Apple has in the past filed for patents regarding 3D object and gesture recognition.
If anything this sounds like it could be potentially be used for augmented reality technology, a technology that Apple has not be shy about praising multiple times in the past. So for Apple to incorporate the tech into the iPhone would not necessarily be a stretch, but like we said, how exactly the iPhone will take advantage of the feature remains to be seen.
However 9to5Mac suggests that this might be nothing more than an improvement over the current Portrait Mode camera feature of the iPhone 7 Plus, a feature which we had previously stated could do with more improvements. Take it with a grain of salt, but it sounds like the iPhone 8 is shaping up to be a pretty interesting phone to look forward to.
