Instagram launched its Stories feature a couple of months ago. If you think it sounds similar to Snapchat Stories, that’s more than a coincidence, because the feature is more or less the same as Snapchat Stories. Instagram is rolling out an update for this feature today which sets it apart from its rival. Mentions, links, and Boomerang are now live for Instagram Stories.
This update enables users to take a Boomerang inside the Instagram app. They just need to swipe right from their feed to open the stories camera. There’s a new format picker under the record button which can be used to select Boomerang mode. The camera will then stitch together a burst of photos into a mini-video.
Mentioning people in stories works just like it does in Instagram captions and comments. Just add “@” followed by a username when adding text to a story and select the person you want to mention.
The mentioned person’s username will appear underlined in the story. When that mention is tapped, a pop-up will open which will take them to that person’s profile.
“See More” links will now start appearing at the bottom of some stories. This is a feature that’s only being tested with verified accounts right now, it lets them add links so that it’s easy to get more information regarding that particular story.
The updated Instagram Stories is part of version 9.7 of the Instagram app that has been released today for iOS, Android, and Windows Store.
