Last we heard, the sales of the HTC Vive and other similar VR headsets have flatlined. You could chalk this up to lack of content available for VR or pricing, but it seems that the hype isn’t what it once was. However it seems that HTC could be working on a refreshed headset codenamed “Oasis”.
This is according to a tweet by developer @LlabTooFeR who has tweeted out some pretty accurate information in the past. No word on what we can expect from the refreshed hardware, but this definitely isn’t the first time we have heard of potentially new hardware. There are talks about HTC creating a wireless version of the headset, and earlier this year we also heard that a slimmer/lighter version of the HTC Vive could also be in the works.
The rumors claim that the refreshed headset could be launched by the end of the year, but given that we’re already in November, it’s starting to feel unlikely unless HTC decides to announce one within the next few weeks. It is possible that maybe HTC could save the unveiling for CES 2017, but that’s just speculation on our part.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but if a refreshed HTC Vive is something of interest to you, check back with us at a later date for the details, if there are any to be had.
