GoPro recently launched its first drone but the launch didn’t go as planned. There was so much hype surrounding this product and the company certainly enjoyed getting attention because of it. However, the GoPro Karma drone didn’t perform as well as the company would have hoped. Last week the company officially confirmed the recall of its Karma drone. It has now confirmed that customers in the U.S. who picked up the Karma will receive a free Hero5 action camera as compensation.
Soon after the Karma drone was released, there were multiple reports about the drone losing power during operation. This meant that it could be high up in the air when it would suddenly lose power and come crashing to the ground.
Not only did that potentially wreck the drone, but it also became a safety hazard for any bystanders who might find themselves underneath the drone as it fell from the sky. This is why GoPro decided to recall all units of the Karma drone even though “a very small number” of owners reported the issue.
GoPro isn’t discontinuing the Karma drone, mind you. It’s going to resume selling the drone once the issue has been taken care of. Customers who return the drone are receiving a full refund and customers in the United States are also receiving a free Hero5 action camera over and above the refund.
