In an announcement on the Google Blog, the company has revealed that they have made a pretty major revamp to the Google Play Music service, in which the company claims it will be smarter and easier to use. “To deliver that, Google Play Music uses machine learning to figure out what music you like and then mixes in signals like location, activity, and the weather along with hand-picked playlists to personalize music for wherever you are and whenever you want tunes.”
Basically it sounds like with the new Google Play Music, Google will leverage all the things that made its search platform so great, and apply that to its music streaming platform. This includes taking into account your location and things that might be of interest to you, all with your permission of course.
The app itself has also undergone a major revamp and has a brand new home screen. It will be contextual and will constantly change depending on your listening preferences, like when a new song has been added to a playlist you’re subscribed to, and so on. Google has also introduced offline playlists that are basically playlists of songs that you’ve listened to recently. All these changes are already live and are making their way out to the markets that Google Play Music is currently available in.
