What this means is that while the bezels will remain, it will be slim enough to make it look borderless. The report goes on to claim that with this new display and design, it will allow Samsung to embed the fingerprint sensor under the display, as opposed to placing it on the home button. This seems to line up with earlier rumors that suggests that the Galaxy S8 will ditch the home button.
This comes from a principal engineer at Samsung Display, Park Won-sang. While Park did not explicitly mention that this display would be for the Galaxy S8, we don’t see why Samsung wouldn’t want to use it. At the moment little to nothing is known about the Galaxy S8, but a Samsung exec recently confirmed that we will be looking at a phone with a slick design and an improved camera.
In any case try not to get your hopes up just yet. While the Mi Mix certainly looked good in the photos, real-life photos showed that its bezel was thicker than what we were led to believe, but hopefully Samsung will be able to debut something amazing. Following the Note 7 debacle, a huge win is what Samsung clearly needs at the moment.
