For A Brief Moment, Facebook Accidentally ‘Killed’ Everyone

If you logged into Facebook today and started seeing memorial messages for yourself or for your friends, don’t panic because there’s a very good chance that you and your friends are actually still alive. For some reason there was a little glitch that accidentally saw Facebook “kill” everyone you know.

This seemed to apply to pretty much all of Facebook’s users, and even the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg was not spared. Thankfully whatever the problem was, Facebook managed to address quickly, but not before Twitter started being spammed by users who were “surprised” to find out that they were “dead”.

In the message that was posted to everyone’s Facebook profiles, it read, “We hope people who love <name> will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life.” Facebook quickly rectified this and sent a statement to The Wall Street Journal and The Verge.

In the statement Facebook says, “For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialized profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts. This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened and we worked as quickly as possible to fix it.” That being said if you have come across this message, it’s probably safe to disregard it, unless you know for a fact that the other person has indeed passed away.
