Way before today’s elections, it has always been something of a joke that should Donald Trump win the presidency, there would be many Americans who would be willing to leave the country and live elsewhere. Naturally America’s neighbor Canada is the most obvious choice due to its proximity.
If you have been following the elections you are probably aware that Trump’s lead against Hillary Clinton is pretty clear and it seems that what was once a joke about migration is suddenly a very attractive option, so much so that there have been multiple reports that Canada’s main immigration website appears to have crashed with many users getting an error message, presumably under the weight of many Americans who are looking to leave the country and who are exploring their options.
Even at this time of posting, trying to access the website is pretty much impossible as it is refusing to load. Canada’s immigration website isn’t alone in experiencing this as New Zealand is also reportedly seeing a spike in interest in immigration. Now as to whether or not Americans make good on their decision to migrate remains to be seen, but it is clear that the 2016 elections will have a huge impact on the futures and livelihoods of many.
